The new Toyota HiLux arriving in December 2025 isn't just an update.
It's the biggest leap the nameplate has made in years, with a bold Australian-designed look, a completely reworked interior, and major improvements to comfort, capability, and safety.
And for the first time ever, the HiLux will be available as a battery-electric vehicle in 2026, with a hydrogen fuel-cell version to follow in 2028. For work fleets and businesses planning their next decade, that's huge.
This HiLux looks different because it was created differently.
Toyota Australia led the exterior design, and the result is a tougher, sharper ute that feels built for real local conditions.
Slim headlights, stronger lines, and completely redesigned front and rear ends give it a modern, confident presence.
The Rugged X takes it even further with standard off-road protection and recovery gear, so it arrives ready for harsh terrain straight from the dealership.

Step inside and it's clear Toyota has listened to HiLux owners.
A flatter, wider dash improves forward visibility, which makes slow off-road climbs easier and helps in tight worksites. Every grade gets a digital instrument cluster plus a huge 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Controls are simpler and more intuitive, with large physical buttons that are easy to use on rough ground.
Seats have been redesigned for better support, and upper grades can be optioned with powered adjustment, leather accents, and heating.
It's the most comfortable HiLux cabin yet.
The proven 2.8-litre turbo-diesel stays, delivering 150kW and 500Nm when paired with the automatic. Manual variants offer 420Nm.
Automatic SR double-cab grades and above now include Toyota's 48-volt V-Active technology, which smooths stop-start operation and adds an extra boost when pulling away with a load or trailer.
Steering moves to a new electric system, giving a lighter feel around town and more stability at highway speeds. It also improves the effectiveness of Toyota's lane-keeping features.
Suspension has been retuned across the range:
It's a more refined HiLux without losing the grit.

4x4 HiLux grades already have a strong reputation off the road, and this model builds on it:
The result is more control, more confidence, and better traction when the tracks get tough.
For the first time, the HiLux will be available as a battery-electric vehicle. It will launch in 2026 in dual-cab SR and SR5 grades with dual motors and a lithium-ion battery.
This is aimed squarely at fleets and businesses looking to cut running costs and emissions without giving up capability.
Toyota will release full details closer to launch, but this marks a major shift in the light-commercial market.
Toyota has also confirmed a hydrogen FCEV version for 2028, giving high-usage operators a fast-refuelling, zero-emission alternative to battery-only solutions allowing for multiple pathways for different customers and industries.
Every grade gets the latest Toyota Safety Sense suite with major improvements:
And with expanded Toyota Connected Services, owners can monitor their vehicle, access navigation and voice controls, and receive alerts through the myToyota Connect app.
WorkMate, SR, SR5, Rogue, and the returning Rugged X round out a lineup that covers work, family, touring, and off-road adventure.
Diesel, electric, or hydrogen in the future. Two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Manual or auto. There's a HiLux for every use case.
The new HiLux arrives in Australia in December 2025, with the electric model following in 2026. Final specifications will be confirmed closer to launch, but there's no doubt this is the most advanced, most comfortable, and most capable HiLux Toyota has ever built.
If you've been waiting for the next major jump forward in Australia's favourite ute, this is it.
